Hathorn Elementary School is a Level 4 Exemplary school for the 5th consecutive year. Our guiding motto is "children and learning come first". We are a team working together to provide opportunities for our students to become the best they can be. We believe in developing all aspects of children; academic, mental, physical, and social.
All core academic subject area teachers and assistants are highly qualified as defined by the NCLB Act of 2001. We not only teach for mastery of the state required subjects, we have supplemental learning programs such as Ideal Learning, Accelerated Reader, and the 21st Century Learning Program.
We stay on the forefront in the use of technology in the classroom. In addition to a computer lab with 25 Internet connected computers, every classroom has Internet connected computers for teacher and student use. Some classrooms are equipped with Promethean boards, which allow hands on interactive teaching and learning. Through our technology equipment and integration, we are able to provide our students with the same resources available to students in larger schools.
One of our most outstanding assets is the math store. The store has a sampling of toys comparable to Toys R Us and Target stores. Students earn “Hathorn Bucks” based on attendance, grades, conduct, and citizenship. These bucks may be used to purchase items in the store once each nine weeks.
In keeping with the philosophy, “It takes a whole village to raise a child”, we actively seek the support of the whole community. Through our partnership with the Carroll County Development Association, Central Mississippi Inc, Carroll County Home Extension Office, other community service agencies, parents, and community members, we work together to raise and educate our students in the best manner possible.
